Trojans clinch BNC hockey title outright

ALPENA — Traverse City Central clinched the Big North Conference title outright with a 2-1 win at Alpena.

The Trojans (14-4-1, 9-0) scored both of theri goals in the second period. Marcus Russell tallied off assists from Lucas Little and Brady Girard. Keanen Armour scored with Cam Givens and Little assisting.

Both teams were credited with 29 shots on goal.

Saginaw Swan Valley      2 Bay Reps      0

Saginaw Swan Valley notched a 2-0 non-conference win over the Bay Reps at Centre ICE.

The Vikings scored once early in the first period and added an empty-net goal late in the third.

John Posler made 21 saves on the 22 shots he saw as the Reps outshot Swan Valley 27-22.

The Reps (7-10) host Mid-Michigan tonight at Centre ICE. The game starts at 7 p.m.

TC West      5 Cadillac      3

TC West bounced back from a loss to TC Central earlier in the week for a 5-3 Big North win over Cadillac.

The Titans (7-9-1, 4-2-1 BNC) were tied 3-3 going into the third period when Tyler Thirlby scored two goals. One was a powerplay from Trent McDougal while the other was an empty-netter from Alex Grizzel.

Nick Schultz scored a first-period goal from Jason Fedorinchik. After Cadillac took a 2-1 lead in the second, the Titans responded with two powerplay goals just 15 seconds apart. Willie Hanrahan scored the first from McDougal and Nate Madigan while McDougal scored the second from Madigan.

Michael Tilford made 24 saves for West.

TC West is off until a road trip to Alpena on Thursday. The Wildcats lost to TC Central, 2-1 on Friday.
