Gladiators win tourney

Schaub brothers win weight classes

GAYLORD — Brothers Zach and Isaiah Schaub won their respective weight classes Saturday as St. Francis captured the 33-team Northern Michigan Wrestling Championship here.

The Gladiators finished with 178 points. St. Ignace was second (126) and Escanaba third (110).

Both Schaubs went 4-0 on the day — Zach at 112 and Isaiah at 140.

Isaiah Schaub became just the fourth wrestler in the tournament's history to win his weight class four times. Schaub was selected as the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the lower weights. He also had the most pins in the least amount of time. He notched his four pins in a total time of 4 minutes, 28 seconds.

Taking second for the Gladiators were Eric Wales at 103, Jack Jamieson at 145 and Alex Picardat at 189. Finishing fifth were Mike Ostrom at 119, Ben Jamieson at 135, Haydn Wilson at 215 and Jake Khoury at 285. Matt Mawby was sixth at 125.

The Gladiators compete in their conference tournament next Saturday at Kalkaska.

Central's Lopez-Wild wins at Petoskey

Traverse City Central's Josiah Lopez-Wild won the 189-pound weight class in the Petoskey JV Invitational.

Central's Ted Dykstra took second at 160, Dominic Farmer and Justice Korson were third at 125 and 135, while Robert Switzer, Jennifer Long and Eric Bailey were fourth at 130, 152 and 171.

Bay Reps     4 Mid-Michigan     0

P.J. Hager scored two goals as the Bay Reps defeated the Mid-Michigan Storm 4-0.

Kevin Banducci and Zach Hill assisted on Hager's first goal while Mike Druskovich and Banducci picked up assists on the second.

Nate Wilson and Nick Fisher also tallied for the Reps (8-10). Zack Bargy drew the assist on the Wilson goal. Mark Mol and Andrew Dzierwa had the assists on the Fisher tally.

The Reps, now off until Feb. 8 when they face Cadillac, outshot the Storm 44-3. Claire Huhta had the shutout.

Tri-Valley     5 NW Warriors     3

Tri-Valley jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead, then held off the Northwest Warriors 5-3 at Centre ICE.

Chase Joppich netted two goals and Jarred Alkire one for the Warriors. Paul Watkoski picked up an assist. Luke Somsel had 23 saves in goal.
