Cadillac tackle commits to CMU
CADILLAC — Cadillac offensive tackle Jack Ford verbally committed to Central Michigan on Thursday.
The 6-6, 275-pound senior had offers from the Chippewas and Toledo. Bowling Green expressed interest after his performance at Michigan State's camp last weekend.
Ford is the 12th player to commit to Central Michigan in its 2013 class.
Three area players in all-star game
TRAVERSE CITY — Three area players will compete June 30 in the 32nd annual Michigan High School Football Coaches Association East-West All-Star game at Alma College.
Suiting up for the West: Petoskey defensive back Joe Robbins, St. Francis defensive lineman Zach Swaffer and Traverse City West offensive tackle Jordan Strope.
Game time is 4 p.m.
Defending champs back at Amateur
TRAVERSE CITY — Brian Cram and Gary Thaxton will try to defend their titles this weekend in the TC Amateur.
The two-day, 36-hole event will be played at two sites — the Traverse City Golf and Country Club on Saturday and Lochenheath on Sunday. Tee times start at 1 p.m.
Cram won the open division (handicap of 12 or less), Thaxton the senior division (50 and over), a year ago. Some 20 golfers are currently registered. The entry fee is $140. To join the field, call Bruce Anderson at 313-1696.
Anderson said the two courses will provide a good test for the golfers.
"You have to keep it pretty straight at the Country Club, and Lochenheath can make for a pretty tough day if you're not doing well," he said. "Even Gary (Thaxton) said there could be some bigger numbers there."
