Boys Roundup: Sheldon leads Glads

HARBOR SPRINGS — Harbor Springs has been a tough place to play for the St. Francis Gladiators.

Friday night, though, was a different story.

Led by Sean Sheldon, the Gladiators rolled to an 85-56 Lake Michigan Conference win over the Rams. It was 45-29 at half.

Sheldon finished with 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Michael Jenkins contributed 13 points, Ian Spencer 11 and Byron Bullough nine.

St. Francis (13-1, 10-0) is at Grayling on Tuesday.

Grayling     66 Kalkaska     30

Grayling set the stage for its upcoming Lake Michigan Conference showdown with St. Francis by beating Kalkaska 66-30.

Zane Tobin scored 16 points, Steven Enos 13 and Tom Burrell 12 for the Vikings (12-3, 8-2).

Elk Rapids     68 Charlevoix     55

Elk Rapids bounced back from Tuesday's loss to Grayling by outscoring Charlevoix 25-12 in the second quarter en route to a 68-55 Lake Michigan Conference win.

Luke Morrison led the Elks (9-4, 7-3) with a game-high 28 points. Philip Hayes added 15 and Austin McMullen 13.

Charlie Hamilton netted 18 points and Andrew Potter 14 for the Rayders.

Boyne City      51 East Jordan      38

Freshman Corey Redman had a double-double to lead Boyne City to a 51-38 Lake Michigan Conference victory over East Jordan.

Redman had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Keegan LaBlance added 15 points and four steals and Jey Redman had 11 points and three steals.

John Richards' 17 points paced the Red Devils.

Benzie Central      64 Frankfort      61

Benzie Central stayed in first place in the Northwest Conference with a 64-61 win over Frankfort in front of a big home crowd.

Corey Bock led four players in double figures, scoring 15. Connor Stapleton added 12 and Will Huddleston and Corey Weaver 10 each.

Brandon Miller scored a game-high 26 points for the Panthers, and David Loney added 12.

Glen Lake      65 Buckley      38

Buckley led 21-13 after one quarter, but Glen Lake clamped down on defense for a 65-38 Northwest Conference victory.

The Bears would score only 17 points the rest of the way, never hitting for more than seven in a quarter.

Mike O'Brien led Glen Lake (10-5, 8-2 NWC) with 19 points, Carter Lee had 16 and Parker Kokowicz 13.

Jake Larson paced Buckley with 14 and Evan Chalker had 10, but the duo was limited to two points in the second half.

Kingsley           44 Suttons Bay      26

Kingsley outscored Suttons Bay 31-10 in the second half for a 44-26 Northwest Conference win over the Norse.

Jack Ocobock had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Stags (7-7, 5-5 NWC) while Rachi Sims had all 11 points after the half.

Mason Darling and Hendrix Kohler each had seven points for Suttons Bay.

Leland     64 Mesick     39

A.J. Whittaker had 22 points and 24 rebounds to power Leland to a 64-39 Northwest Conference win over Mesick.

J.R. Duvall chipped in 15 points for the Comets (7-6, 5-5), who travel to Traverse City Christian on Monday.

Thane Herbert's 12 points topped Mesick.

Bellaire     86 Forest Area     40

Unbeaten Bellaire raced to a 42-10 lead at half en route to a 86-40 Ski Valley Conference win at Forest Area.

Tyler Thornton led the Eagles with 19 points. He hit five 3-pointers. Mitch Tetzel added 18 points and six rebounds and Gus Meriwether 13 points.

Jermaine Nix netted 16 for the Warriors (5-5).

Pellston     68 Gaylord St. Mary     49

Chris Hass scored 35 points as Pellston defeated Gaylord St. Mary 68-49 in Ski Valley play.

The Hornets led 41-18 at half.

Gabe Nowicki's 11 points topped the Snowbirds (6-7).

Mancelona     66 Central Lake     64

Freshman Brandon Dingman scored 23 points as Mancelona held on for a 66-64 Ski Valley win over Central Lake.

The Ironmen led by 10 with just under two minutes to play, then needed a steal in the final seconds to hold off the Trojans .

Justin Spires added 12 points and Kyle Schepperley 10 for Mancelona.

Trevor Papineau, playing on a bad ankle, led Central Lake with 27 points, 18 in the first half. Zack Harvey added 16.

Manistee CC     64 Bear Lake     52

Manistee Catholic moved into a tie for the lead in the West Michigan D with a 64-52 win at Bear Lake.

Bear Lake had been unbeaten in league play.

Catholic (13-3, 11-1) trailed 28-21 at half before turning it around.

Zack Bialik, Alex Hogan and Ben Felczak led the Sabers with 14 points apiece. Nathan Papes added 12 and Alex Bialik eight.

Felczak pulled down eight rebounds, Papes six. Hogan dished out four assists and Alex Bialik three.

Lake Leelanau SM      58 Northport      30

Lake Leelanau St. Mary's won its homecoming game with a 58-30 Cherryland Conference victory over Northport.

Caleb Korson scored 18 points, Joe Pendergast 15 and Nick Shaffran nine to lead the Eagles (6-8, 3-1 CL), who trail TC Christian by one game in the league standings. Bill Stowe scored 21 points for Northport.
