Hossa leads White to win

There may not be a better front line in hockey than Detroit's Marian Hossa, Tomas Holmstrom and Pavel Datsyuk. And, they're already clicking. The tandem was in on three goals Tuesday in the annual Red-White game.....more>>

  • U-M's Berenson enjoys his time at camp
Red Berenson said he feels like a fox in a henhouse. The University of Michigan hockey coach attended Detroit Red Wings training camp in Traverse for the second straight year at the behest of Wings coach Mike Babcock, and says the experience is one to remember.

  • Ozzie is back in the saddle
After Friday's physical to open training camp, Chris Osgood tried to escape from Centre ICE unnoticed. It didn't work. When the Red Wings goaltender quietly exited out the front door -- away from the media and fans on the East end -- he was spotted and flooded by a number of autograph seekers.

  • Hossa's goal: Win a Cup
If you can't beat 'em, sign with 'em -- for $7.4 million dollars. Just don't think it's all about the money for All-Star right wing Marian Hossa, who jumped from the runner-up Pittsburgh Penguins to the champion Detroit Red Wings in the offseason.

  • Fans flock to TC for Red Wings camp
Fans came from Bay City, from Boyne City and points in between Saturday to watch their beloved defending Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings open training camp at Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City.

  • Wings hope to buck trend
A Stanley Cup hangover? The Detroit Red Wings arent buying it. The Wings opened training camp Saturday at Centre ICE trying to buck a recent trend in the National Hockey League.

  • Camp Notebook: Ryder Cup, Wings style
Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky isn't the only site for international golf this weekend. With professional golfers playing for the Ryder Cup outside of Louisville, four Detroit Red Wings are vying for bragging rights in a Europe-U.S. match in Traverse City. (Plus more from our reporters' Red Wings Training Camp notebooks.)

  • Stanley Cup champs return to TC
The Detroit Red Wings had just completed their off-ice testing Friday morning at Centre ICE when coach Mike Babcock was asked about the results. "I didn't look," he said. "I'll look (today on the ice)." That evaluation process begins today as the defending Stanley Cup champions take to the ice for their first official day of practice.

  • 4:09 pm: Stanley Cup champs arrive in TC
The Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings arrived in Traverse City today.

  • Fischer returns to Wings in new role
On the night of Nov. 21, 2005, Jiri Fischer played in his 305th game with the Detroit Red Wings. It would turn out to be his last. But Fischer is back with the team in his new role as director of player development.

  • Young goalies excite Red Wings
Daniel Larsson is ready to be the Detroit Red Wings goaltender of the future. But he isn't the only player at Centre ICE this week for prospects camp with dreams of manning the pipes for Detroit one day.

  • Wings try out reclamation projects
One is named Swan and has gone from the Ducks to the Wings. The other used to live in Patrick Roy's house. Both are former second-round draft picks who the Detroit Red Wings are hoping can turn it around. Bryce Swan and Joey Ryan were picked 10 spots apart in the 2006 NHL Draft. Neither was picked by Detroit, but now both are wearing the winged wheel.

  • Rangers give Messier a shot
There aren't any names or numbers on the New York Rangers practice jerseys this week during the NHL's prospect camp at Centre ICE. Perhaps that's the ideal situation for Lyon Messier, who is trying to make his own name in the hockey world that his father, Mark, dominated for 25 years.

  • Axelsson may add to Wings' Swede tradition
You've heard this one before. The Detroit Red Wings pluck a diamond in the rough from the lower tiers of the Sweden's leagues. Said kid costs Detroit only a middle-round draft pick, and goes on to be a major contributor on a Stanley Cup team. The punch line is always the same; only the names change.

  • Abdelkader makes impression on Red Wings
Justin Abdelkader had quite an indoctrination into the National Hockey League. After ending his career at Michigan State, Abdelkader signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings late last season, played in two games and then became a Black Ace -- part of the practice squad during the team's Stanley Cup run.

  • Central's Kelly fills in with Lightning
It was mainly the same drills, but it was far from just another practice for Hunter Kelly. Kelly, a senior starting goalie for Traverse City Central, ended up playing in goal for the Tampa Bay Lightning in practice at the 2008 NHL Prospects Tournament on Friday.

  • Red Wings like their prospects
It's probably the last thing opposing NHL teams want to hear coming out of Detroit right now. Not only are the defending Stanley Cup champions loaded with talent, but the the organization believes it has quality players in the farm system that will keep them competitive for years to come.

  • Area draft picks won't be in tourney
So much for a local flavor to the 2008 Prospects Tournament. Area hockey products Zach Redmond and Will Weber have been informed by their teams that if they participate in any games at the tournament, they would lose their collegiate eligibility.
