Heart-to-Heart event for women begins

Traverse City — As part of Munson Medical Center's ongoing Women's Heart Health efforts, area women can sign up for one-on-one heart disease screenings.

Screenings and tests are by appointment the weeks of Feb. 13 and 20 at Munson Community Health Center, 550 Munson Ave. The cost is $45 and grants are available. For details or an appointment, call 935-8561.

Those who complete the screening are eligible for a six-week women's exercise class. The cost is $90 and grants are available. For class details call 935-9565.

Lupus education and support group

Traverse City — The Lupus Alliance Education and Support Group will meet on Monday, Feb. 13.

Series will focus on natural health

Suttons Bay — Certified herb specialist Sandy Nesky will present a free Natural Health Education Series.

Sessions will start at 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 14, 21 and 28, at the Suttons Bay Medical Center. Registration is required.

'Share the Love Day' honors community

Traverse City — Higher Self Bookstore will host "Share the Love Day" on Tuesday, Feb. 14, as a way to give back to the community.

The book store will offer free mini readings, energy work sessions and massages from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in exchange for donations of non-perishable food items for area food pantries. Refreshments will be served.

Healing Place offers program and class

Northport — The Healing Place will offer a program on expressive therapy and a Reiki I and II class.

"The Symbolic Language of Heart and Soul" will start at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15. A $10 donation is suggested.

The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 17, for the Reiki class. It will meet 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25. The $300 course fee includes a manual and certificate.

A $50 deposit is required with registration.

Adoption and foster care info meetings

Traverse City — Bethany Christian Services will present free adoption and foster care informational meetings on Thursday, Feb. 16.

A state adoption/foster care meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, followed by an intercountry adoption meeting from 2 to 4 p.m., both at Bethany Christian Services, 1055 Carriage Hill Dr.

Program will focus on heart disease

Traverse City — Cardiologist Dino Recchia, MD, will discuss practical ways to prevent and manage heart disease in a program on Thursday, Feb. 16.

"An Owner's Guide for Your Heart — 2012 Edition" will be held 6:30-8 p.m. at The Hagerty Center, 715 E. Front St. Appetizers will be served at 6 p.m.

'Solid Rock' teen concert for Christ

Benzonia — Christian rock band Attaboy will headline "Solid Rock 2012," a free teen concert for Christ on Thursday, Feb. 16.

Following 450 performances , three CDs and chart-topping songs such as "Wait on You" and California" the band is building momentum through national tours and a new album titled "Being Remade."

Attaboy will be joined by Christian rap musician Brandon Jenkins. There also will be praise and worship by The Zone Youth Worship Team and a gospel message by Pastor Chuck Towersey from the Fresh Wind Christian Community.

The doors open at 6:45 p.m. for the 7 p.m. concert at Benzie Central High School, 9300 Homestead Road. An "Afterglow" will be hosted from 9 to 10 p.m.

Fundraiser for Child and Family Services

Traverse City — A "Golden Evening of Style, Color and Comfort" on Friday, Feb. 17, will benefit Child and Family Services.

The event will be hosted 5:30-8 p.m. at Golden-Fowler Home Furnishings, 1137 S. Garfield. There will be refreshments, a silent auction of local art, and door prizes. Attendees also can vote for their favorite design in the inaugural "Celebrity DreamRoom Classic."

'Spin-raiser' benefit for TART Trails

Traverse City — Yen Yoga & Fitness will hold a "spin-raiser" Saturday, Feb. 18, to benefit snow removal along the TART Trail.

The TART Trail Snow Removal Initiative uses a leased tractor to clear specific sections of the TART Trail for improved access for transportation and recreational activities. Fundraisers such as the spin-raiser help pay for fuel and routine maintenance for the tractor.

Yen Yoga will hold a 60-minute class at 8:30 a.m., a 75-minute class at 10 a.m., and a 90-minute class at noon. A $10 donation per class is suggested. For details or to register, contact Yen Yoga, 421-5496 or www.yenyogafitness.com.

Fundraiser will help the Rich Harp family

Traverse City — Old Mission Peninsula United Methodist Church will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 18, for Rich Harp and family.

The meal will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall on Swaney Road. A free-will offering will be accepted.

Harp suffers from liver failure and proceeds will help with expenses incurred during his illness. Call 223-4393 for details.

Singles invited to join group for dinner

Charlevoix — The Singles for Christ dinner group invites area singles 50 and older to join them for dinner.

An afternoon of chili, sweets and art

Traverse City — Christ United Methodist Church will host a "Presidential Weekend" Chili Cook-off, Cookie Walk and Art Sale.

Activities will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, at the church, 1240 Three Mile Road. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children 5 and older and free for children 4 and younger, with family packages available. This includes all the chili you can sample, games, and entertainment. There also will be a silent auction and an art sale.

Community invited to sledding party

Traverse City — The Bethlehem Lutheran Youth Groups invites the community to go sledding on Sunday, Feb. 19, at Twin Lakes Park.

The party will start at 2 p.m. and attendees should bring a snack to share, dress warmly and bring sleds. Hot dogs and hot chocolate will be provided.

Pioneer Church hosts hymn sing

Interlochen — The community is invited to sing old-time gospel songs at a Sunday, Feb. 19, Community Hymn Sing.

Seminar introduces 'The Perfect Diet'

Traverse City — An ecumenical Nutritional Health Ministry program created by Paula Alflen, a registered dietitian, will be introduced at a seminar Monday, Feb. 20.

Alflen put the program together after reading a study that indicated that young adults who participated regularly in church activities were 50 percent more likely to be overweight at middle age. The program treats body, mind and spirit through interactive classes with cooking, food samples and exercise demonstrations.

Dance battle for Cancer Society

Traverse City — Northern Michigan dance crews will perform at a "Dance Battle 4 The Cure" for the American Cancer Society Great Lakes Division.

DJ DomiNate will spin the tunes for dancing by The Dance Center's Fresh Fusion Extreme and Fresh Fusion, college hip hop crew Mojo Stomp, Crystal Bindi Studios Jewel Jigglers and others.

The freestyle event will start at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Francis High School, 123 E. 11th St. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and admission is $5.

Tickets on sale for marriage workshop
