Free wiper fluid
TRAVERSE CITY — Today, Feb. 23, and Saturday, March 16, drivers are invited to The Journey Church for free windshield washer fluid.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday, the community outreach team will distribute free gallons of windshield washer fluid to anyone on the road. Drivers can swing through the Wesleyan church parking lot, 2825 S. Airport Road, to receive their free gallon from a Christ In Action team member.
LAKE ANN — Lake Ann United Methodist Church will host a chili/soup challenge followed by a “Night of Music” tonight, Feb. 23.
The challenge will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the church, 6583 First St., followed by free music from 7 to 9 p.m. The suggested donation is $4 per person or $10 per family; free when entering a crockpot of soup or chili. For details or to sign up, call 275-7236.
TRAVERSE CITY — A certification workshop, “Safeguarding God’s Children,” in the prevention of sexual misconduct against children will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26. The registration deadline is Monday, Feb. 25.
Workshop hours are 6-9 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St. Offered through the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan, the certification is appropriate for all caregivers of children and youth as well as parents of children.
Call the church, 947-2330, to register. A $10 fee is payable at the time of the class and childcare is available on request. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag dinner.
TRAVERSE CITY — Kevin Gay of the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Department will discuss identity fraud and scams at the Wednesday, Feb. 27, meeting of the Grand Traverse Area Parkinson’s Support Group.

Lenten lunch series
TRAVERSE CITY — Pastor Joe Bradway of The Church of Philadelphia in Traverse City will give the Lenten message at the next Community Lenten Luncheon.
The soup and sandwich meal will be served at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City, 701 Westminster. Music will start at noon, followed by Bradway’s message from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
A $3 donation for the meal is suggested and proceeds benefit local missions. The series continues on Thursdays through March 21 and is sponsored by Church Women United. Call 938-1387.
TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s office and the Traverse City Police Department have installed a drop box for prescription and over-the-counter medication disposal at the Law Enforcement Center, 851 Woodmere Ave.
The box is for OTC medicines and outdated, unused and unwanted prescriptions, including controlled medications. The drop box is accessible from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; medications do not need to be removed from their packaging.
Needles, lancets, pen needles, aerosol cans, IV bags, hydrogen peroxide, mercury containing thermometers and bloody or infectious waste are not accepted.
