TRAVERSE CITY — Brenda Sue Girard, of Traverse City, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at home. Brenda was born on July 6, 1949, in Northport, the daughter of John and Betty (Wayese) Anderson.
Brenda was famous for running around Traverse City on her scooter.
Brenda was a longtime member (so long that her enrollment number was just #380) of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.
She loved thrift shopping and Big Lots, enjoyed arts and crafts and created Native American bead work and key chains. Brenda enjoyed watching the Cooking Channel and the TV show Lock Up. She was crazy about her grandkids and her cat, Sparky, whom she called her other grandson.
Brenda is survived by her daughter, Luci Lin (John) Williams; three grandchildren, Josiah J. LaBonte, Michaela L. LaBonte and Bryanna L. Willams; brothers, Tom, Charles "Jumbo", James (Iva), Jacob, Jeffrey (Ginger) and Jonathan Anderson; sister, Jennifer (Martin) Baker; and longtime friend and companion, Gary McSawby.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Harvey, Linda and John E. Anderson.
A celebration of Brenda's life will be held today, Jan. 12, at 3 p.m., the Northport Indian Mission Church. The Rev. Thomas John will officiate.
