TRAVERSE CITY — Authorities slapped another criminal charge on a man accused of molesting a child.
Eighty-Sixth District Judge Michael Haley on Friday arraigned Brandon James Smith, 26.
Smith initially was charged as a habitual offender with a count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13 and a count of aggravated incident exposure.
Prosecutors added an additional count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, a crime for which the potential penalty is life in prison.
Haley denied bond, and Smith remains at the Grand Traverse County Jail.
City police said Smith sexually assaulted a boy, 8, in an apartment complex near the Grand Traverse County Civic Center on Oct. 25.
Prior to that, he was convicted of groping a teen girl at a local store in 2008.
