BEULAH — Custer Courville "Coury" Carland will be on the ballot as an independent in the Benzie County sheriff's race.
Carland, a 2000 graduate of Frankfort High School, has a political science degree from Central Michigan University and is completing a master's degree there.
Carland is a professor at Saginaw Valley State University.
He'll face Republican Ted Schendel, who handily defeated two challengers in the August primary.
