Traverse City — The Goodwill Community Holiday Needs program is preparing to brighten the holidays for area needy children and homeless individuals.
The program allows participating families to "shop" for both gift items and necessities in a temporary store stocked with merchandise that has been purchased or donated specifically for the program. Volunteers help guide them through the process, allowing them to select appropriate gifts for their children.
Goodwill also is partnering with Toys for Tots and the Department of Human Services to make sure that no child or homeless individual is left out at the holidays.
The community can help by buying an extra gift while shopping from Goodwill's wish list or making a financial gift to the program. New unwrapped gifts will be collected through Thursday, Dec. 13, at the Traverse City Goodwill Store, 2279 S. Airport Rd.; and through Monday, Dec. 10, at the Suttons Bay Radio Shack, 325 N. Saint Joseph St.
