Sportscaster to speak at schools
TRAVERSE CITY -- Longtime sportscaster Charlie Adams will be speaking at Elk Rapids and Traverse City High Schools this week.
Adams has 23 years of experience covering high school athletes. His seminar is titled "Colelge Recruiting Simplified" and will focus on what to know and what to do during the recruiting process.
The seminar at Elk Rapids will be Monday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. in the Elk Rapids auditorium. He will speak at TC West's auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 6:30 p.m.
There is no cost for the seminar and is open to all high school athletes and their parents.

Thiel to start in rugby World Cup qualifier
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Traverse City's Phil Thiel will once again be the starting propping hooker today when the U.S. national rugby takes on Uruguay in World Cup qualifying.
The Eagles beat Uruguay 27-22 a week ago and will use the same lineup again today.
To clinch a spot in the 2011 World Cup, the U.S. must either win or lost by less than five points today.
Townsend leads Maryland to win
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Traverse City's Casey Townsend scored Maryland's first goal of the postseason on Thursday in a 2-1 win over Loyola.
The Terrapins are the defending national champions.
Townsend, a TC West grad and Maryland sophomore, got his goal after a teammate's shot was blocked.
During last year's run to the national title, Townsend also got the first Terrapins goal of the postseason in a 2-0 win over George Mason.
Maryland will play again on Sunday at seventh-seed Penn State.
