THOMPSONVILLE -- Traverse City Central dominated both the boys and girls divisions on a sunny Thursday at the first Big North Conference meet at Crystal Mountain.
"The kids skied very well," Trojans coach Mike Waning said. "They're starting to gel as a team and they're having fun. All the kids were smiling. Although the weather had a lot to do with that."
In the boys' division, the Trojans won with 28 points. Cadillac (81), Petoskey (87.5), TC West (102) and Gaylord (193) rounded out the field.
Cadillac's Carter Marsh won the slalom (50.59) and the giant slalom (34.28), but the Trojans rounded out the rest of the top five in both races.
In the giant slalom, Central's Clark Phelps was second (35.05), Kalvis Hornburg was third (35.07), Briggs Chapman fourth (35.22) and Micah Appel was fifth (35.31).
Phelps was second in the slalom (50:59), Hornburg was third (52.26), Chapman fourth (52.77) and Appel fifth (54.02).
"The boys were packed in there," Waning said. "That's good. It means they're pushing each other."
In the girls' division, the Trojans won with 21 points, followed by TC West (81), Petoskey (86), Cadillac (131) and Gaylord (203).
Central's Ellen Whiting won the giant slalom in 38.97 while Maddie McLachlan was second (39.17) and Sierra Olsen was third (39.95). Petoskey's Sarah Shafer was fourth (40.96), followed by Central's Adrienne Bruder (41.11), Mallory Weaver (41.14) and Cecily Olsen (41.38).
