Trojan skiers sweep at Schuss

McLachlan, Phelps lead way

MANCELONA -- Still unbeaten.

Maddie McLachlan and Clark Phelps powered the Traverse City Central ski teams to a sweep Monday in an invitational at Schuss Mountain.

McLachlan won the slalom (60.93) and giant slalom (46.60) as the girls finished with 35 points. Petoskey was second (91), Traverse City West fourth (170) and St. Francis ninth (254).

Phelps won the slalom (56.49) and placed second in the giant slalom (48.17) as the boys finished with 48 points. West was second (108) and St. Francis fifth (157).

The girls put four skiers in the top 10 in each discipline. Mallory Weaver took third in both races while Sierra Olsen placed fifth in the slalom and 10th in the giant slalom. Adrienne Bruder was eighth in the slalom and Ellen Whiting fourth in the giant slalom.

West's Nicole Schroeder finished ninth in the slalom and Elle Rivard 15th in the giant slalom. St. Francis' Hatti Christian was 20th in the slalom and 24th in the slalom.

The Trojans were almost as dominant in the boys race. In addition to Phelps, Calvis Hornburg took sixth, Micah Appel seventh and Chris Carefoot 11th in the slalom, In the giant slalom, Appel was sixth, Briggs Chapman seventh, Carefoot eighth and Mark Madion 10th.

Lee Batcha and Ryan Ness had good days for West. Batcha placed second bin the slalom and third in the giant slalom while Ness was third in the slalom and fourth in the giant slalom. St. Francis' Stephen Siddall took fifth in 6the giant slalom and 10th in the slalom.
