Soccer Roundup: West shuts out Alpena

Titans, Trojans to meet in soccer district on Wed.

ALPENA -- Traverse City West dispatched of Alpena for the third time this season, as the Titans' 4-0 district win set up a third face-off with rival TC Central on Wednesday.

"We'll have to play well, because they'll be ready," West coach Jason Carmien said of Central.

Brady Fagan scored two first-half goals for the Titans, one assisted by Sean McPherson and the other by Ricardo Rodriguez.

Jon Spencer scored off a Rodriguez assist in the second half, and Jake Trafalet closed out the scoring with a penalty-kick goal.

Erik Nixon and Ben Casciano split time in goal for the Titans (14-5-1).

Wednesday's 7 p.m. district semifinal will be played at the Coast Guard field. West and Central split in two meetings this season.

Boyne City 0

A hat trick by Colton Gelinas propelled Kalkaska to a 3-0 district win over Boyne City.

Scott Luca set up two of Gelinas' goals, while Mason Moses had one assist.

Travis Schuba made 10 saves to pick up the shutout in net.

The Blazers (9-9-1) play Traverse City Christian at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kalkaska.

Charlevoix 5
Grayling 0

No. 5-ranked Charlevoix shut out Grayling in its district opener.

The Rayders (18-1) will now face Elk Rapids on Wednesday at Kalkaska.

Nick Sendek made 12 saves for the Vikings (11-7).

Suttons Bay 3
Northport 0

Suttons Bay moved on in the Division 4 semifinal with a 3-0 first-round win over Northport.

The Norse (13-6-2) will play Forest area at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Glen Lake.

Ryan Manning and Conor Ott had first-half goals for Suttons Bay for a 2-0 lead at the break. Then in the second half, Ian Callewaert added a goal to finalize the scoring.

Bobby Latorre had two saves on the night while Jared Orban earned the shutout in net.

Manistee 2
Benzie Central 1

Manistee topped district host Benzie Central 2-1 in the overtime.

Drew Sheffield and Logan Pachesney scored for the Chippewas.

Brandon Baesch had Benzie's goal, assisted by Collin Towersey.

Burt Lake NMCA 7
Bellaire 2

Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy posted a 7-2 win over Bellaire in the Division 4 district opener.

The Eagles (18-4) had three goals from Paul Chatfield, two goals and two assists from Aaron Chatfield, two goals and an assist from Josh Fosmore, and two assists from both Josh Lovitt and Tommy Rew.

Burt Lake NMCA will play host Harbor Springs at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Harbor Light Academy and Beaver Island will play the first game.
