ELK RAPIDS -- The Elks defended their home turf, taking a baseball doubleheader from Charlevoix in a pair of pitcher's duels.
Elk Rapids won 4-1 and 2-1.
Troy Huhta drove in Kyle Doran with the winning run in the bottom of the sixth of the nightcap victory. Doran had led off the inning with a single and stole second.
Ryan Forfinski picked up the victory in relief for the Elks, throwing four innings of three-hit ball. Tyler Smith added a hit and a run for Elk Rapids (5-9, 3-5 Lake Michigan), which hosts Traverse City St. Francis on Monday.
Mike Heckendorn had two hits and an RBI for Charlevoix, while Bill Ivan had two hits and scored a run.
In the opener, Eric Savage gave up just one hit in five frames to pick up the win. Smith belted an RBI triple and Brendan Tully added an RBI double.
Alex Foster took the loss for the Rayders, despite giving up just three hits in five innings. Isaac Klooster had a hit and a run for Charlevoix (2-12, 1-8), which plays in the Big Cat Invitational in Birch Run on Saturday.

Mancelona stayed unbeaten with a 5-0, 10-0 Ski Valley Conference sweep of Gaylord St. Mary.
The Ironmen (12-0, 10- SVC) had a complete game shutout in the opener from Greg Blanco, who tallied 11 strikeouts. Dan Johnson led the offense with two hits, a run and two RBIs.
In the nightcap, Nick Lockman pitched the two-hit win with six strikeouts. Kodi Balhorn and Cody Christmas each had two hits.

Leelanau 4 5
Traverse Ctiy Christian earned a 6-4 win in the opener against Leelanau for its first victory of the season.
The Thunderbirds came back for a 5-2 win in the nightcap.
Sam Fagerstrom had eight strikeouts to earn the win in the first game for the Sabres (1-11) while John Rudolph had a two-RBI hit.
Jason Send and Quentin Marion each had RBI doubles in the nightcap for TC Christian.

Amber Hoffman had two hits on game and Chelcie Hoffman added two more in the other as Charlevoix swept a pair from Elk rapids, 2-0 and 8-5.
Hannah Hybl threw a three-hitter in the opener, striking out six.
In the nightcap, Elk Rapids took a 5-4 lead in the fifth before the Rayders struck for four in the top of the sixth. Desi Faust and Lauren Mielke each had two hits for Charlevoix.
Stephanie Niepoth and Jessie Spoor had two hits each for the Elks (8-8), while Kacey Anderson tripled in the fifth.

Cadillac 0
Traverse City West hit the road and came away with a 2-0 Big North Conference win over Cadillac.
Maddisen Coil scored both goals for the Titans. Jessica Hardin and Natalie Sutherin had assists.
Emily Entz earned the shutout in net for West.
Cadillac won the JV contest, 2-0.
Gaylord 1
TC Central 0
Stephanie Weiscel scored the game winner to lift Gaylord to a 1-0 Big North Conference win over Traverse City Central.
Weiscel's goal came with less than 8 minutes remaining in the game and was unassisted.
The Trojans (4-4-4, 1-1-3 BNC) outshot the Blue Devils (5-2-1, 3-2 BNC) 6-3 in the match. Rose LeBlanc had the shutout in net for Gaylord.
TC Central's Black JV won 2-1 as Kendra Harris and Carrie Rice scored for the Trojans (6-3-1).
Gaylord's freshmen beat TC Central Gold JV 5-0 behind three goals from Courtney Fitzgerald.

Harbor Springs 0
Mary Raetz posted a shutout as the Traverse City Liberty topped Harbor Springs 2-0.
Helène Dryden scored on a header off a Julie Doherty corner kick in the first half and Doherty also set up Jessi Heger for a second-half goal.
The Liberty (7-2-1, 5-2-1 Lake Michigan) host Suttons Bay on Monday.

Taylor Smith scored two goals as Charlevoix topped East Jordan 5-0 in Lake Michigan Conference action.
Hallie Bills, Bridget Peters and Olivia Catt added goals for the Rayders.
