MOUNT PLEASANT -- Traverse City St. Francis defeated Portland St. Patrick 13-11 in extra innings to claim third place in the Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart Invitational on Saturday.
Emily Buckel and Amy Brunner had four hits each against St. Patrick, as Buckel drove in four runs and Brunner two. Kelli Day drove in two runs with three hits and Sarah Brunner had two RBIs on two hits.
Amy Brunner was the winning pitcher in relief.
The Gladiators also beat Gaylord St. Mary 13-0 in five innings, as Buckel and Amy Brunner each had two hits and combined to drive in five runs. Day was 2-for-3.
Rachel Overmire picked up the win, striking out six and giving up four hits.
St. Francis started the day with a 5-4 loss in extra innings against No. 2-ranked Bay City All Saints.
All Saints' Louis Rizmer fanned 22 batters out of 24 outs. She was also 4-for-5 with three RBIs at the plate.
Amy Brunner struck out seven of her own, and Ellen Kendziorski had two of the Glads' four hits.
St. Francis (17-11) hosts Boyne City on Tuesday.
Benzie Central claims consolation final
Benzie Central beat Hesperia 11-1 for third place in the Benzie Invitational.
Farwell won the tournament.
In the third-place game, Adriane Kline pitched the win for the Huskies while Jackie Frederick went 4-for-4 with a home run. Alyssa Smith also had two hits.
TC West goes 1-2 at Titan Invitational
Playing state ranked teams, Traverse City West fared 1-2 at the Titan Tourney.
The Titans (19-11) beat Clarkston 6-3 in the opening game. Kate Colmus pitched the three-hitter, Rachael Barnes had two hits and Jen Hathaway scored twice.
Kalamazoo Christian -- which later won the tournament -- beat Central 9-2 as Barnes had a hit.
Troy also beat West 9-0 as Kate Kirkey added a hit.
The Titans will host Petoskey Monday in a key game in the Big North Conference standings.
Hurons win Laker Invite
Rogers City won the Laker Invitational at Glen Lake, defeating Pine River 3-2 in the championship game.
Pine River opened up with an 11-1 win over the hosts. Hannah Therrien had two hits and drove in Glen Lake's run.
Rogers City beat Clare 9-2 in the other opening-round game.
Clare topped Glen Lake 7-6 in the consolation game, despite three hits and two runs by Kristen Pleva and two hits from Paige Picard.
The Lakers (14-14-1) travel to Suttons Bay on Tuesday.
TC West JV 1-2 at Boyne
Traverse City West's JV Gold went 1-2 in the Boyne City JV Invitational.
The Titans (7-9) lost to JV teams from East Jordan and Boyne City before topping Boyne Falls' varsity 8-4 with a five-run sixth inning.
Colby Fortin, Tiarah Reece and BriarRose Gallas each had two hits for West, while Myranda Adamek was the winning pitcher, giving up just four hits.
