Softball Roundup: Peters throws perfect

EAST JORDAN -- In East Jordan's opening game, Shaina Peters was in mid-season form, throwing a perfect game as the Red Devils swept a doubleheader from Inland Lakes.

East Jordan won by 13-0 and 11-6 scores.

Peters struck out 13 of 15 batters she faced in the first game, allowing no runners to reach base.

Jessica Kinner had two hits -- including a triple -- and Valerie Peters and Monica Capelin each had two singles. Mel Skrocki and Shaina Peters each doubled. Hannah Streufert, Michelle Finley and Morgan Skop had one hit apiece.

In the nightcap, freshman Valerie struck out six and picked up the win. She added three hits of her own.

Skrocki, Finley, and Megan Keyser each had two hits. Streufert and Kinner also had singles.

Alysha Bishop had two hits for Inland Lakes, Bridget Scales doubled and Ashley Goodman, Steph King and Kristy Espinoza had hits.

Grayling opened the season with a pair of close setbacks, dropping 9-6 and 10-9 decisions to Carson City-Crystal.

Jordan Stephan had a 3-for-4 game in the opener, scoring a run and collecting a pair of doubles, while Makenna Harwood hit a solo home run. Joni Bindschatel was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs in the nightcap.
