Blazejewski wins GLIAC award

SAULT STE. MARIE — Lake Superior State junior forward Maria Blazejewski earned her second Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division Player of the Week honor after pouring in 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0 blocks per game during last week's home victories over Ohio Dominican and Tiffin.

The Benzie Central product scored a career-high tying 27 points to lead LSSU to a six-point victory over ODU. She also scored her 1,000th career point during the contest. She scored 23 points and totaled a career-high seven blocked shots as the Lakers beat Tiffin, 71-67.

Seven blocked shots is the second-highest single-game total in the GLIAC this season.

Softball event slated for Wed.

TRAVERSE CITY — A fundraiser for Northwest Michigan Fastpitch softball will be held at La Senorita on Wednesday.

Twenty percent of patrons' bills — including gift cards — go toward Northwest Michigan Fastpitch to support travel softball.

The La Senorita on U.S.-31 South is participating in the one-day event from 11 a.m. to midnight.
