HOUGHTON — Area Nordic skiers competed in Junior National Qualifying races in Houghton last weekend.
Andrew Bruning won the J1 (16-17 year olds) boys 10K freestyle race with a time of 27.48. Lauren Pflughoeft was fourth in the J1 girls 10K in 35.44.
In the J2 (15 and under) 5K boys race, Ian Durand finished third while Erin Lipp was second in the J2 girls race.
In the 5K J2 Classic races, Ian Durand finished third and Erin Lipp fourth. Lauren Pflughoeft was third in the 5K girls J1 race and Andrew Bruning fourth in the 10K boys J1 race.
Several area high school skiers will compete in the Vasa this weekend. A year ago, Central's Pflughoeft and Evan Cover won the 12K freestyle and Charles Needham and Kennedy Cullen the 12K classic.
