TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West won its first Division 1 district wrestling title Thursday night in 10 years.

The Titans defeated Alpena 46-31 and Traverse City Central 63-11 to end the drought.

"The kids deserve it," West coach Berard Priante said. "It's been a long season. They've worked hard all year. This is their reward."

West will now face Saginaw Heritage in a first round regional match next Wednesday in Midland.

The Titans used pins by Trevor Willnow at 189, Jonah Jasmin at 119 and Zack Provost at 140 to turn back Alpena. Provost's pin sealed the victory.

In addition, Liam Curtis, wrestling in his first match of the season, posted a 9-1 win at 285 that proved critical.

West won four weight classes by void — Shale Nolan at 160, Caleb Harris at 103, Eric Anton at 112 and Kolin Stanley at 125.

The Titans had six pins in the win over Central — Tyler Shaffer at 171, Willnow at 189, Chad Pipkins at 215, Stanley at 125, Caleb Kase at 130 and Tanner Yanski at 152.

Nolan claimed 160 by decision. Winning by voids were Josh Wheaton at 285, Harris at 103, Anton at 112, Jasmin at 119 and Sean Clark at 145.
