---- — SAUGET, Ill. — Traverse City held on for a big 13-7 win Tuesday, cutting into Windy City's East Division lead in the process.

The Beach Bums built a sizable 12-1 lead on host Gateway after five innings, mainly on the power of 1-2-3 hitters Matt Brown, Mike Diaz and Chase Burch. The trio ended the game with nine hits, 10 RBIs, two home runs and eight runs scored.

Diaz hit his second home run of the season, while Burch cranked his 12th.

Kevin Reese (9-7) was breezing along — with a Gordon Gronkowski solo home run in the first the only hit surrendered through five innings — before giving up four sixth-inning runs and two more in the seventh.

Scott Mueller came on to throw 2.1 innings in relief of Reese. Mueller struck out three in the non-save situation.

Windy City lost 3-2 to Evansville, pulling Traverse City within four games of first place.

Brad Miller and C.J. Ziegler — who was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks — also had RBIs for Traverse City.

Ryan Platt (7-3) takes the hill for the Beach Bums tonight against the Grizzlies, who counter with Tim Clubb's 7-3 mark.
