LOVES PARK, Ill. -- The game only lasted seven innings, and perhaps that was best for the Traverse City Beach Bums.
Rockford starter Jay Monti cruised through six innings of four-hit ball, striking out six, before Slava Vasilyev came on for a 1-2-3 final inning as the RiverHawks took the opener of a doubleheader from the Beach Bums 11-1.
Wednesday's game between the two teams was rained out, and the nightcap of Thursday's twinbill was not completed as of press time.
David Nathanson's struggles continued, as last year's All-Star Game starter fell to 1-7 this season, giving up 11 runs in four innings, although only four of those were earned.
Jono Brooks drove in four runs, hitting his third home run of the season, and Jason James added a solo shot for Rockford (22-22).
John Alonso drove in Traverse City's only run with a second-inning solo homer.
Chris Kupillas tossed two shutout innings of relief work for a bright spot for the Beach Bums.
