Joburg knocked out

Tawas takes Class C district with 50-45 win

LEWISTON — JOHANNESBURG-The run came to an end for Johannesburg-Lewiston on Saturday.

The host Cardinals were knocked out of the Class C district final by a 50-45 loss to Tawas.

The Cardinals (20-3) finished the year only losing to two teams — Tawas and Gaylord St. Mary. The Snowbirds won both Ski Valley Conference meetings.

In Saturday's game, Johannesburg-Lewiston jumped out to a 13-2 lead early and made it 15-10 at the end of the first quarter.

But, the Braves came rolling back to take a 23-22 lead at the half.

Teams traded leads in the second half, but when Tawas gained a slim edge with 2 minutes to go, the Braves ran a stall offense, Joburg was forced to foul and they made their free throws.

Tawas moves on to play McBain Tuesday at Inland Lakes.

Joburg's Abby Schlicher had 11 points, nine rebounds, 10 blocks and four assists.

Katelyn Weaver had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for the Cardinals, Hannah Huff had eight points and nine boards and Miranda House had eight points, four steals and four assists.

Tawas had 19 points from Kim Salwey while Abby Gentges had 18 points.
