Northmen beat TC Central in finale

Petoskey to face Grand Haven in Class A regional semifinal

TRAVERSE CITY — It took a couple of extra days, but Petoskey emerged as Class A district champion.

The Northmen won the district with a 46-39 victory over host Traverse City Central in a rare Sunday basketball game.

Petoskey moves on to face top-ranked Grand Haven on Tuesday in Cadillac.

Kelsey Ance led the Northmen (14-9) with 18 points while Katelyn Crittenden had 12 points and Megan Tompkins scored 10.

For the Trojans (13-10), Katie Knudsen had 16 points, including going 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. She finished with 1,183 career points.

Brianna Podsaid, Chandler Cobb and Molly Walker all had six points for the Trojans.

Petoskey jumped out to a 15-4 lead after one quarter, but Central closed it to 20-14 at the half.

With 10 seconds left, Knudsen knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 42-39. But the Trojans were called for an intentional foul after the in-bound, Crittenden made both free throws and then hit a shot at the buzzer to put the game away.
