West golfers host used club sale

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City West boys golf team will host a used golf club sale Saturday, April 14, in the West Middle School cafeteria.

Those who have clubs to sell can bring them in from 5:15- 8:45 p.m. Friday (April 13). The sale runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those who bring in equipment can pick up their proceeds or unsold equipment from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Michalowski earns specialist honors

ACME — Grand Traverse Resort and Spa's Director of Tennis, Chris "Mick" Michalowski, recently received United States Tennis Association (USTA) certification as a specialist in competitive player development.

Michalowski is the area's first tennis professional to receive this accreditation, according to resort officials.

Michalowski is the girls coach at Traverse City West. At the Resort, he oversees tennis programs and instruction, leagues, and tournament programs. His 15-member tennis staff includes four USPTA teaching professionals and tennis instructors. Michalowski was named the 2003 and 2005 Michigan Tennis Professional of the Year by the USPTA.

Junior Golf sign-up continues

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Junior Golf Association (TCJGA) continues sign up for junior golf lessons, on-course instruction and the tournament programs.

Boys and girls ages 5 and older can sign-up on-line on the TCJGA web site at www.tcjga.com. Lessons begin the first week of May and continue into the summer. Tournament play and on-course instruction begins in June.

Spring Fling tourney April 28

TRAVERSE CITY — The fourth annual Spring Fling 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held April 28 at Traverse City Central.

The double-elimination tournament for boys and girls in grades 2-12 starts at 9 a.m. The cost is $100 per team. Registration deadline is April 20.

TC roller derby scrimmage April 21

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City's two roller derby teams — the Traverse City Toxic Cherries and Traverse City Cherry Bombs — will mix up their teams and scrimmage Saturday, April 21, at the Kaliseum in Kalkaska.

The Toxic Cherries and Cherry Bombs have their first home bouts of the season May 12 at the Civic Center.

Tickets are on sale at Right Brain Brewery, Ben Franklin and Lifer Skate Shop and online at BrownPaperTickets.com.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with action starting at 7. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Kids 5-under are free.
