Annual Friends of Fishtown 5K set
LELAND — The fourth annual Friends of Fishtown 5K has been set for July 28.
The race will begin at 9 a.m. in Fishtown and run through the streets of Leland. Cost is $25 before July 28 or $30 the day of the race. Online registration is at www.FishtownMI.org.
The race was recently recognized as a quality physical activity event by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness.
TC West 9/10 baseball team wins district
TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City West 9/10 All-Star baseball team recently won the District 8 championship.
The team will play in the state tournament this weekend in Kalamazoo.
TC golfer to compete in International event
TRAVERSE CITY — Anika Dy from Traverse City will compete in the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., this weekend.
The tournament will bring together 600 of the world's most talented young competitors, many of whom have the potential to become leading collegiate and professional golfers in the future.
Harbor Springs Coastal Crawl dated
HARBOR SPRINGS — The Harbor Springs Coastal Crawl will take place on Aug. 5.
The event is an open water swim in Little Traverse Bay. Races are either 1, 2 or 3 miles.
Cost is $35, or $45 on race day and includes lunch.
A 1/2 mile open water swim for kids 12 and under will be held the same day. Cost is $15 and includes lunch.

Traverse Bay Blues set for 39th season
TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse Bay Blues Rugby Club will begin training for its 39th season this week.
Training begins on July 26 at the West Middle School field behind Meijer. Practice starts at 6 p.m. and players should bring cleats, durable clothing, a mouth piece and water.

Area runners compete in state track meet
TRAVERSE CITY — Fifteen area athletes recently in the Hershey Track and Field State meet in Holt.
Williamsburg's Isaac Moothart qualified for the national competition next month in the 200 meter dash.
In the girls 13-14 age division, Gracie Failor of Williamsburg was fourth place in the 800 meter run. In the 11-12 girls division, Brittany Bowman of Kingsley took fifth in the softball throw. Paige Carrigan of Traverse City finished fourth in the 400 and TC's Sielle Kearney was third in the 800.
In the boys 13-14 age division, Ryan Graham of East Jordan won the long jump and the 200 and was second in the 100. In the 11-12 boys division, Cassidy Henshaw of Traverse City finished sixth in the 100 meter dash.
In the 9-10 girls division, Sidney Carrigan of Traverse City placed eighth in the 50 meter dash and along with Andie LeDoux, Isabella Kearney and Chloe Henshaw — all of Traverse City — took third in the 400 meter relay. Annie Hunt of Traverse City finished fourth in the long jump, first in the 400 and third in the 200 meter dash.
