TRAVERSE CITY — It started as a big day for Traverse City manager Gregg Langbehn, but ended as an even bigger one for Jeff Flagg.
After Washington tied the game in the top of the ninth inning Friday, Flagg connected on a walk-off, three-run homer for a 7-4 Beach Bums win at Wuerfel Park.
The win moved Traverse City's winning streak to six games.
Before the game, Langbehn was given a contract extension through the 2014 season. He guided the Beach Bums to the playoffs in 2010 and a franchise-best 27-12 start to this year.
Traverse City took a 4-3 lead into the ninth inning when Washington came back to tie it on Doug Thennis' bases-loaded RBI single.
After getting out of the inning without any more damage, the Beach Bums went to work in the bottom of the ninth when Brian Heere led off with a single. Jose Vargas was intentionally walked and with two outs, Flagg homered to win the game.
Flagg had a big night with the homer, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Vargas had three hits — including a two-run homer in the first inning and a triple — while Heere had two hits.
Scott Mueller got the win in relief after blowing the save. Bennett Whitmore started for the Beach Bums and went six innings with one earned run off one hit, one walk and two strikeouts. Scott Dunn and Sam Brown worked the seventh and eighth innings.
Andrew Heck had two hits for the Wild Things, who were held to just six hits on the night. Washington manager Chris Bando was ejected in the ninth inning.
Traverse City heads to Schaumberg today.
