GRAYLING — St. Francis won a battle between Lake Michigan Conference unbeatens Tuesday.
The Gladiators (8-0, 4-0 LMC) rolled to an 80-60 win over previously undefeated Grayling, setting up another battle with an undefeated team Saturday.
That's when the Gladiators host Charlevoix (5-0, 3-0 LMC) in a rescheduled showdown.
"They have good guard play and a couple big kids, so it'll be a good game," St. Francis coach Keith Haske said. "(Charlevoix coach Adam Wood) played for me years ago, so he knows me inside and out. It makes it a little difficult."
Byron Bullough led the Gladiators with 17 points and five steals, while Connor Archer had 16 points and nine rebounds. Kody Kleinrichert added 11 points, Damon Sheehy 10 points and seven steals and Austin Currie dished out five assists.
"We just had a couple big runs," Haske said. "It was a game of runs. We got up and they came back. We'd go back up and they'd come back. We forced a lot of turnovers and capitalized on them."
Justice Juntilla led Grayling with 13 points, Scott Parkinson added 12, Jake Swander 11 and Tyler McClanahan 10.
St. Francis won the turnover battle 29-20.
"It was a game of spurts," Vikings coach Rich Moffit said. "We been forcing turnovers at a rate of 32 a game and they only had 20."
Grayling (5-1, 3-1 LMC) hosts Gaylord on Monday.
Grayling won the JV game 62-60 in overtime, as Mike Olm scored 21 for St. Francis.
