Harman second-team All-Mid-American
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan senior Robbie Harman, a former standout at Traverse City Central, earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors in basketball.
Harman leads the nation in three-pointers per contest and sits 10th in the nation in three-point percentage. He's eighth in the MAC in league scoring, second in steals and 14th in assists.
He sparked the Chippewas to a 15-14 record during the regular season. CMU, which won the West Division title, faces Western Michigan at noon today in the MAC Tournament in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena.
Townsend earns academic honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- University of Maryland sophomore Casey Townsend, a former Mr. Soccer at Traverse City West, was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference academic men's soccer team.
Townsend, who battled an injury during the regular season, scored six goals in abbreviated play. He came back in the tournament and helped Maryland advance to its eighth-straight NCAA Sweet Sixteen.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during his academic career.
Friday deadline for 3-on-3 tourney
TRAVERSE CITY -- The registration deadline is Friday for the YMCA Midnight Madness 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
The tournament will be held Friday, March 19, and is open to boys and girls in grades 5-9. Teams will be placed in divisions based on grade levels. The cost is $100 per teams (teams consist of three or four players).

TRAVERSE CITY -- Tryouts for the Traverse City Defenders 16-under girls AAU basketball team will be held Sunday, March 21 from 2-5 p.m. at Lake Leelanau St. Mary's.

Parallel 45 tryouts March 20-21
TRAVERSE CITY -- Tryouts for Parallel 45's boys' 17-under AAU basketball team will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at Traverse City West Junior High.
Tryouts for the 16-under team will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, March 21 at Kalkaska Middle School.

Registration set for spring hoops
TRAVERSE CITY -- Registration is now underway for the YMCA men's spring basketball league.
Teams will play on Sunday evenings beginning April 11. Players must be high school age and older. The cost is $300 per team with no extra player fees.
The deadline is April 1.
