ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland — For the second straight year, Traverse City native Zach Redmond has been selected to the American Hockey League All-Star Classic.
In 36 games with the St. John's IceCaps this season, the defenseman has 17 points and is tied for the team lead in goals (eight) and power play goals (four).
Last season, Redmond played in 72 games for St. John's, notching eight goals and 31 points with a plus-nine rating.
The 24-year-old was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the seventh round (184th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Before turning pro, Redmond played four seasons with Ferris State University, spending his final season serving as team captain.
Of the 597 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since the event was reinstated in 1995, more than 92 percent have competed in the National Hockey League.
