TRAVERSE CITY — Cadillac improved to 7-2 in the Big North Conference basketball race Monday with a 53-47 win over Traverse City Central.
"It was two pretty good defensive teams getting after it," Central coach Jeff Turner said.
The Vikings led 23-13 at half, but Central did get as close as five in the second half.
The Vikings scored almost half their points at the foul line, hitting 26-of-34 attempts.
"To their credit, we put them at the line and they made them," Turner said.
Nick Paquet was perfect on 10 free throw attempts en route to a 22-point night. Jalen Brooks added 10.
Ethan Pilarski's 21 points, 10 rebounds and four steals paced Central (4-12, 4-6), which is off until next Wednesday. Taylor Cook added 14 points. Central was 7-of-11 at the foul line.
The Trojans won the JV game 55-41 as Jackson Schrameyer scored 23 points.
Cadillac won the freshman game 36-34.
Glen Lake 65 Benzie Central 46
Curtis Bunek led a balanced attack with 18 points as Glen Lake pulled away for a 65-46 Northwest Conference win over Benzie Central.
Carter Lee added 16 points, Logan LaCross 13 and Mike O'Brien 12 for the Lakers (13-2, 9-1), who host Leland on Friday.
Nate Oren netted 16 points and Corey Weaver 15 for the Huskies.
Glen Lake led 33-26 at half, then stretched it to 51-36 after three.
Mancelona 57 Pellston 39
Brandon Dingman's 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists powered Mancelona to a 57-39 Ski Valley win over Pellston.
Griffin Borst added nine points and four rebounds. Logan Borst dished out eight assists for the Ironmen (12-3, 10-1).
Jake Friedenstab netted 11 for Pellston.
Leland 74 LL St. Mary 39
Leland put four good quarters together for a 74-39 non-league win over Lake Leelanau St. Mary.
The Comets (7-6) led 37-15 at half.
Jonah Wilson had 14 points to lead five in double figures. Matt Fleis, Ian Duvall and Cam Stowe all finished with 13 and Austin Fellows 10.
Brandon McSawby scored 12 points and Drew Pobuda 11 for St. Mary.
Leland plays at Traverse City Christian tonight.

St. Francis 51 Elk Rapids 41
St. Francis withstood a second-half surge by Elk Rapids to post a 51-41 Lake Michigan Conference win.
The Gladiators (14-2, 9-1) were leading 31-16 at half before the Elks pulled to within 34-30 after three quarters.
Liza Erickson scored 22 points for St. Francis. Michelle Costa had 11 for the Elks.
