TC Christian wins Burt Lake soccer tourney

PETOSKEY — Traverse City Christian won the Burt Lake NMCA Soccer Tournament Friday in Petoskey.

Bellaire was third and NMCA fourth in the eight-team field.

Bellaire defeated Boyne City 4-0 in the opener as Drew Emery had two goals, Hunter Rowe and Nick Underwood one goal each and Colin May an assist. Adam Crandall made seven saves in goal.

Bellaire then tied TC Christian 1-1 on a Denny Hall goal set up by Emery. However, TC Christian advanced to the championship game by defeating the Eagles 4-3 in a shootout.Crandell had 11 saves.

Bellaire then faced Northern Michigan Soccer League rival and host Burt Lake NMCA in the consolation final.

Colin May, Emery, MacKenzie Ciganick and Rowe (two) scored Bellaire's goals in the title game. Chatfield had two for Burt Lake.

The Eagles host Suttons Bay on Tuesday.

Burt Lake started off with a 2-1 win over Harbor Springs, then dropped a 4-2 decision with Sault Ste. Marie before the Bellaire game.

Aaron Chatfield scored all six NMCA goals for the day, with assists going to Jake Lovitt, Robert Taylor and Ben Vinz.

Burt Lake hosts Roscommon on Tuesday to open the NMSL season.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS 3, ELK RAPIDS 1: Elk Rapids dropped its season opener 3-1 to East Grand Rapids.

Austin McMullen scored the Elks' goal, with Cam Johnson assisting. Tim Barber made 12 saves.

Elk Rapids travels to Petoskey on Tuesday.
