Rascals trip up Beach Bums

Bums now lead East Division by only 3.5 games

TRAVERSE CITY — A streak is over, and a rival is closer.

River City topped Traverse City 5-2, and the Beach Bums saw their East Division lead shaved to 3.5 games.

Liam Ohlmann shut down the hot bats of Traverse City, which was coming off a three-game sweep of Joliet in which the Bums scored 33 runs. The Rascals' starter gave up only four hits in 7.2 innings and struck out 11.

TC's only runs Friday came on a Kyle Colligan solo homer in the seventh and a first-inning RBI single from Chase Burch.

Burch was the only TC player with multiple hits, singling twice and walking once. Ryan Still walked twice and Jose Vargas reached base two times.

Bums starter Scott Dunn was touched up for six hits and three runs in 4.2 frames.

With 14 contests remaining, Southern Illinois gained a game on the Beach Bums in the East Division race, beating Florence 3-2.
