TRAVERSE CITY — Kalkaska grad Travis Schuba and the Madonna University men's basketball team rallied from a 14-point deficit to pull off a 52-48 come-from-behind win over Aquinas College at the Activities Center on Saturday to clinch a home playoff game in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship Tournament next week.
Schuba scored 14 points to lead the Crusaders.
He hit 5 of 11 shots, including 3 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc. The sophomore added five rebounds and three assists, and was the only Madonna player over 28 minutes, logging 37.
Schuba leads the Crusaders (18-12, 12-6 WHAC) in scoring at 15.5 points a game, adding 3.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and shooting 43.9 percent from 3-point range and 91.5 percent from the free-throw stripe.
No. 3 seed Madonna hosts sixth-seeded Concordia University on Wednesday to open the WHAC tournament.
- Lehigh forward Holden Greiner (TC St. Francis) is battling a sprained ankle. The junior has scored only six points in the Mountain Hawks' last four games, one of which he sat out entirely. He grabbed eight rebounds in that span and hit just 2 of 15 shots from the field.
- Drake has lost three of five games since junior forward Ben Simons (Cadillac) left the lineup with mononucleosis. Simons is out indefinitely.
- The University of Rochester and Loren Wagner (TC West) split four games and have one regular-season contest remaining. The sophomore center averaged 7.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in the games, starting three of those for the Yellowjackets (19-5).
- Dylan Roe (TC Central) and Stephen Wheelock (Suttons Bay) have been a bit of a dynamic duo off the bench for Olivet College. The Comets (4-21, 2-12 MIAA) ended the season with an 81-74 loss to Calvin in which Roe scored six points and Wheelock had five points in six minutes. Roe added 21 points in two other contests, while Wheelock was instant offense again in his only other appearance of the final three games, scoring three points in four minutes.

Albion travels to Hope for the first round of the MIAA tournament Thursday. Nugent led the team with 10 rebounds in a 63-39 win over Kalamazoo College on Wednesday.
- Mary Schlicher (Johannesburg-Lewiston) has been Alma College's best bench player in the Scots' last two games. Schlicher chipped in nine points, nine rebounds (five offensive), three assists and two blocks in 23 minutes in a 60-53 win Saturday over Trine, and 10 points, seven rebounds and a block in 29 minutes of a 63-51 setback Wednesday to Alma.
- Ferris State has moved up to the No. 1 ranking nationally after sweeping Notre Dame and Bowling Green over the last two weekends to clinch at least a share of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association regular-season title. - Will Weber (Gaylord) was +1 in each of the three games he played as Miami posted a 4-0 mark with sweeps of Alabama-Huntsville and Notre Dame.
