LOVES PARK, Ill. —
Devin Shepherd doubled to center field to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Rockford a 2-1 win Friday over Traverse City.
Michael Thomas scored on the double after being hit by a Matt Miller pitch with one out.
Southern Illinois lost 3-1 to Washington, allowing the Beach Bums to stay in first place in the East Division by four games.
Rockford scored a run in the fourth on a Jose Vargas error, but the Beach Bums were able to knot it back up at 1-1 on a Chase Burch solo home run to lead off the sixth.
RiverHawks starter Drew Rucinski went six innings and struck out nine. He walked two and surrendered seven hits.
Meanwhile, Jacob Clem threw two-hit ball over seven innings, but left the game with no chance at the victory. He fanned four and walked two.
Ryan Still, Burch and Kyle Colligan each had two hits for the Beach Bums, who lost their second straight after winning five consecutive decisions. Still also walked twice.
Jeff Flagg had a hit, a walk and a steal for Traverse City.
Miller took the loss, giving up only the one hit in 2.1 innings and striking out two.
The Beach Bums return home Sunday against the Joliet Slammers.
Reid Kelly (7-2) takes the mound tonight against Rockford's Ziggy VanderWall (4-3).
