TCC done at D-2 state tennis finals

Ray playing in quarterfinals for St. Francis

KALAMAZOO — Traverse City Central reached the quarterfinals in six flights on Friday, but couldn't get any through to the Division 2 state semifinals.

The Trojans finished with 13 points, tied with Okemos for sixth. Weather pushed the meet to four different sites.

"I'm extremely proud," TC Central coach Larry Nykerk said. "Many of our players had their best matches of the season today. This has been one of the most fun years for me."

It should continue to be fun for Nykerk over the next few years, as he only loses one senior in Kathryn Amalfitano. TC Central started four freshmen and four sophomores this year.
