TRAVERSE CITY — There was a showdown atop the girls division of the Great Northwest Bowling Conference on Saturday at Lucky Jacks.
Bellaire and Glen Lake squared off, both with 2 ½ wins on the season and leading their division. The teams were separated by just six pins (265 to 259) after their Baker games with Bellaire holding a 6-4 lead in points. But Glen Lake would win 16 of the next 20 points to finish the match with a 20-10 win. Bryanne Palmer rolled a two-game series of 319 to lead the Lakers to the top of the Division 3-4 race. Bellaire's Kristen Schlegel rolled a 433 two-game series (198, 235).
Traverse City West Green beat West Gold 29-1. Titan Corrine Schotenboer had a 202 game. Traverse City Central Black beat the vacant team. Hope Eschelman had a 170 game in the win. Benzie scored its first win of the year by beating Kingsley 30-0.
In the boys division Traverse City Christian stayed unbeaten (6-0) by beating Elk Rapids Orange (3-3) 29-1. Troy Novak (267 game) and Jon Tuck (258 game) led the Sabers, who had team games of 970 and 967. Traverse City West Green also stayed unbeaten at 6-0 by beating Bellaire (4-2) 28-2. The Titans' Sawyer Robinson (222), Jake Noble (208) and Ben Mohrhardt (206) all starred in the win. Nick Betten (374 two-game series) led the Eagles. Traverse City Central Black improved to 4-2 by beating Traverse City West White 27-3. Mitchell Mosley had a 418 two-game series and Brad Wozniak had a 403 series in the win for the Trojans. Kingsley beat Glen Lake 17-13, although they were one bowler short. Ember Lhamon led the Stags with a 383 series. Benzie beat Traverse City Prep 22-8. Traverse City West Gold (4-2) beat Traverse City Central Gold (1-5) 30-0. Elk Rapids Black and St Francis tied at 15-15. Gladiator Leah Schmerheim led both teams with a 195 game.
Teams return compete in the Holiday Singles Tournament on Saturday.
