TRAVERSE CITY — West's boys were the only Traverse City varsity basketball team to post a victory Thursday in the Traverse City Classic.
The Titans defeated Midland Dow 65-54.
Jeremiah Williams led West with 20 points and seven rebounds, while Kendrick Meyer added 12 points, six rebounds and five steals and Nate Castor and Johnny Wheelock each scored eight points and Zach McGuire seven. Donny Cizek had six assists.
Malik Garner paced Dow with 15 points, and Matt Deshone and Drew Cassidy each had 10.
Dow won the JV game 63-50 as West's Deion Dial scored 14 points and Thiyo Lukusa had eight.
Central's boys dropped a 59-48 decision to Marquette after leading by 10 at halftime.
The Redmen were down 31-21 at the intermission, but came out with a 21-7 run in the third quarter.
Ethan Pilarski scored 15 and Tanner Kenny 12 for the Trojans (1-4). Mark Pap had 20 and Andrew Nyquest 17 for Marquette (4-0).
Central won the JV game 51-37 as Jackson Schrameyer scored 14 points.
Marquette topped Central 52-45 in the girls varsity game, despite nine points each from Madi Bankey and Tyler Rawlings and eight by Karlie Acton.
Hunter Vitalia scored 13 and Liana Storm 10 for the Redettes, who won the JV game 45-24 as Kelsey Action scored 16 for the Trojans.
Dow's girls topped TC West 45-28 to improve to 8-0, leading 27-9 at halftime.
Katie Placek scored 11 for West (1-4), while Kristine Mussell had 12 points — all on 3-pointers — for the Chargers.
West hosts Dow and Central welcomes Marquette in today's conclusion. The varsity boys games are at 1 p.m., followed by the girls varsity at 2:30 p.m.
