Prep Sports Roundup: Bellaire clinches SVC crown

BELLAIRE — Mitch Teetzel and Denny Hall led Bellaire to a 56-40 victory Wednesday over Mancelona that clinched the Ski Valley Conference crown for the undefeated Eagles.

Teetzel had 17 points and Hall 15 for Bellaire.

Griffin Borst paced Mancelona with 21 points and six rebounds, while Brandon Dingman had 10 points, six rebounds and three assists for the Ironmen (13-5, 11-3 SVC), who host Johannesburg-Lewiston on Friday.

BOYS HOOPS

TC Central 	48

Bay City West. 	36

A balanced attack led Traverse City Central to a 48-36 non-conference road victory over Bay City Western.

Ethan Pilarski scored 11 points and Taylor Cook 10, while Tanner Kenney grabbed eight rebounds. Nate Schlusler had seven points, seven assists and five boards.

The Trojans (5-12) head across town Friday to play Traverse City West.

Central won the JV game 42-31, led by David Irish's 17 points.

Western won the freshman game 34-20.

East Jordan 	62

Kalkaska 	41

Jordan Weber's game-high 15 points helped East Jordan earn a 62-41 Lake Michigan Conference win over Kalkaska in a game that was postponed Tuesday due to weather.

Matt Bolser scored 11 and Colin Petrie 10 for the Red Devils.

Caleb Gelinas scored 11 points for the Blazers, Marlin Reese and Aaron Zimmerman had nine points each and Major Bevis contributed seven points and nine rebounds. Kalkaska hosts Boyne City on Friday.

Grayling 	73

Charlevoix 	48

Jake Swander led four Grayling players in double figures in a 73-48 Lake Michigan Conference victory over Charlevoix.

Swander scored 16, while Tyler McClanahan added 12 points and four steals and Scott Parkinson and Justice Junttila each scored 11 points.

The Vikings (13-4, 10-2 LMC) host East Jordan on Friday.

Charlie Hamilton scored 18 to lead Charlevoix.

Suttons Bay 	39

Frankfort 	30

Aaron Orban scored 11 points to lead Suttons Bay to a 39-30 Northwest Conference win over Frankfort.

Logan Mikesell added seven for the Norsemen (5-11, 3-8 NWC), who travel Friday to Leland.

David Loney scored 12 and Owen Stratton 10 for the Panthers.

GIRLS HOOPS

Kalkaska 68

East Jordan 	42

Given an extra day off due to a weather delay, Kelli Guy returned from a knee injury and scored 27 points in less than three quarters of action to lead Kalkaska to a 68-42 Lake Michigan Conference victory over East Jordan.

The Blazers (15-3, 12-1) can clinch a share of the LMC title Friday with a home win over Boyne City.

Guy hit 11 of 15 field goals and added eight assists and four steals.

Tabitha Kibby contributed 13 points and four assists, Taylor Kibby had 10 points and six steals and Reyann Homan pitched in a team-high nine rebounds.

Allie Suttons scored 14 points to lead the Red Devils, while Val Peters and Jasmine Stanhoff each had eight.

McBain 	66

Evart 	22

McBain tripled up Evart in a 66-22 Highland Conference victory.

The Ramblers led 36-15 at halftime and shut out the Wildcats for the entire fourth quarter.

Meredith Hamlet led McBain with 18 points. Kara Hughston added 11 points and nine steals, Madison Marnette and Keiana Westdorp had 10 points each, Kate Overmyer chipped in seven points and eight rebounds and Sam Bode helped out the defense with five steals.

The Ramblers (12-6, 11-1 HC) travel Friday to Beal City.

Onaway 	49

Central Lake 	47

Onaway never led through three quarters, but rallied to earn a 49-47 Ski Valley Conference victory over Central Lake.

Kallie Shimel and Mariah Ehrke had 16 points each for the Cardinals (15-5, 11-5 SVC), who host Class D districts Monday and play Atlanta.

Lauren Rogers scored 15 points, Allie Hines 14 and Jaynee Mortenson 12 for the Trojans (11-8, 8-7 SVC), who are off until playing Boyne Falls in Monday's Class D district at Gaylord St. Mary.

McBain NMC 	50

Lake City 	38

McBain Northern Michigan Christian closed out strong on the home floor to pull away and post a 50-38 victory over Lake City in Highland Conference play.

The Trojans rallied in the fourth quarter behind the hot shooting of junior guards Maggie Eising and McKenzie McCord to pull within 46-38 with less than three minutes left but the Comets put the final four points on the board.

Emma Towers tallied 14 with nine rebounds to pace NMC (11-7, 7-6) while Sydney Dick and Brittany Hoekwater each hit for 11. Senior center Paige School scored six and grabbed nine boards.

Eising sank 12 to lead the Trojans (7-11, 2-11) and McCord canned 10. Buffy Buttis scored six with 12 blocks and five rebounds.

HOCKEY

Bay Reps 	4

Cheboygan 	0

Zach Hill was involved in every one of the game's goals as the Bay Reps shut out Cheboygan 4-0 in Northern Michigan Hockey League play.

Hill had a hat trick and one assist for the Reps (11-13), who have won two in a row and travel Friday to Manistee.

Nate Wilson scored the game's other goal, while Nick Sicinski drew two assists and John VanRaalte had one helper.

Jay Jones stopped all 19 shots he faced as the Reps outshot the Chiefs 31-19.
