MUSKEGON -- Suttons Bay has a perfect chance to see how far it has come.
The Norse knocked off Big Rapids Crossroads 7-0 in the regional semifinals on Wednesday, and will now get another shot at Muskegon Catholic Central, a team that handed Suttons Bay a 6-1 loss early in the year.
"We're looking to see how much we've improved," Norse coach Randy U'Ren said.
Suttons Bay jumped out to a 6-0 lead at halftime over Crossroads.
"It was just a great game," U'Ren said. "We came out firing from the start."
Shane MacDonald led the Norse with three goals. Danny Holmes and Evan Glowicki each had a goal and an assist and Justin Dalzell and Juan Reyes had goals.
Benno Gurlach and Jason McKisson each added two assists and Connor Ott had one.
Jared Orban and Mack Jones each played a half in goal, sharing the shutout.
No. 5-ranked Suttons Bay (19-2-1) will face No. 3 Muskegon Catholic (18-2-2) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
DIVISION 3
Whitehall, Manistee advance in Shelby
Whitehall scored on a penalty kick late in the first half and went on to beat Traverse City Christian in a shootout to win the second of two Division 3 regional soccer semifinals.
Manistee won the opener 3-1, scoring three unanswered goals to top Tawas 3-1.
Manistee and Whitehall (20-1-1) play in the regional final on Saturday at 3 p.m.
"It was a good run for our first year in Division 3," TC Christian coach Tom Spencer said. "I'm really proud of the boys.
"We had it. We should have had it. But you've got to put the ball in the net."
Whitehall had its successful penalty kick at the end of the first half and carried the lead into the intermission.
TC Christian (15-7) tied it in the second half on Jason Send's goal, assisted by Scottie Raetz.
"We came back out and took it to them," Spencer said. "I give a lot of credit to the boys. We just couldn't get that second goal and we had a lot of chances to get it."
Whitehall won the shootout by a 4-2 score. Brian Wierenga and Raetz had shootout goals.
DIVISION 2
Petoskey plays today for a regional championship
Petoskey, a 1-0 winner over Grand Rapids Foerest Hills Eastern on Tuesday, plays Fruitport at 6 p.m. today at Cedar Springs for a Division 2 regional title.
