Deyo, Grant claim Bigfoot 5K race
TRAVERSE CITY -- Kevin Deyo and Jami Grant were the overall winners in the Bigfoot 5K snowshoe race Saturday.
Deyo claimed the men's division in a time of 29:29.8. He was followed by Nate Ismond (30:25.27) and Asa Kelly (30:29.52).
Grant captured the women's division in 34:41.67. She was followed by Angelina Bauer (35:23.99) and Meg Stall (39:19.67).
Yaro Middaugh and Erin O'Mara took the 10K.
Middaugh was the men's winner in 56:58.25. Nick Allen (59:38:88) edged Ryan Rebain (59:58.41) for second.
O'Mara had the top women's time in 1:04:37.41. Sara Williams placed second (1:12:31.03) and Sarah Sherwood third (1:13:09.77).
Special Olympics Winter Games set
TRAVERSE CITY -- The 33rd annual Special Olympics State Winter Games will be held Feb. 3-6 in Traverse City and Bellaire.
More than 950 athletes will compete. Athletes will compete in six different sports -- alpine skiing, cross country skiing, figure skating, snowboarding, snow shoeing and speed skating. Snow shoeing will take place at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, figure skating at Howe Arena and skiing and snowboarding at Schuss Village.
Tickets for games at Palace on sale
MAPLE CITY -- Tickets for the Glen Lake and Suttons Bay boys and girls varsity basketball games at The Palace on Friday, Jan. 30 are available at the Glen Lake athletic office.
The tickets, which are also good for the Detroit Pistons-Boston Celtics game that evening, are $35.
The girls play at 1 p.m., the boys at 2:45 and the Pistons-Celtics at 7 p.m.
