Miners beat Bums, despite Kay’s 3 RBIs

Kay drives in all three runs for Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY — A 5-3 loss Thursday to Lake Erie knocked Traverse City out of first place in the East Division.

Catcher Chris Kay drove in all three Beach Bums runs.

Kay belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth and brought in the first run of the game with a fourth-inning RBI double to score Travis Higgs.

Robby Kuzdale walked with the bases load in the fifth, Rogelio Norris doubled in a run in the sixth, Kuzdale tripled in a seventh-inning run and later scored on a wild pitch and Wally Correa came in on an error in the ninth to account for the Crushers' scoring.

Kay and Higgs each had two hits — but the rest of the lineup accounted fro just two others.

Lake Erie's Alex Loftin picked up the win, while Jason Mattila took the loss for TC, giving up one hit, two walks and two runs in 1.2 innings in relief of David Deminsky. Brooks Belter (2-0, 3.22) starts tonight for TC.
