Crosby hits milestone

TRAVERSE CITY — Senior Rachel Crosby scored 17 points Saturday to surpass the 1,000 career mark as the Traverse City Bulldogs remained unbeaten with a 63-36 basketball win over Hudsonville.

It was the 12th straight win for the Bulldogs.

Crosby, who scored 11 points in the first quarter, now has 1,001 career points. She's the fourth Bulldog to hit that milestone. Ellisha Crosby (2,668), Leah (Bell) Akerman (1,346) and Ellen Musser (1,071) are the others.

Crosby also had 11 rebounds, four steals and three blocks.

When she hit a free throw to reach 1,000, the game was stopped and she received a ceremonial basketball from her coach and father, Kris.

"I didn't tell her she only needed 16 points to reach 1,000 because I didn't want her to freak out and miss all her shots," Kris Crosby said.

Kasey Acton added 17 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and six assists in the win. Mary Raetz contributed 16 points and six steals.

The 12-0 start is the Bulldogs best since 2007 when they won 13 straight.
