Bums walk to 6-1 win over the Boomers

Eight free passes help push TC to fifth straight win

TRAVERSE CITY — On their way to winning their fifth straight game, the Traverse City Beach Bums walked there.

The Beach Bums drew as many free passes as the team had hits in a 6-1 win over Schaumburg, walking eight times.

Jacob Clem (6-4) earned his sixth victory of the season, giving up only one run on five hits and a walk. He struck out two. Clem lowered his season ERA to 2.77.

Nick Capito struck out the side in the eighth inning and Matt Miller locked up the win with a scoreless ninth.

In the fifth, Jose Vargas doubled in Brian Heere, and Jeff Flagg doubled in Vargas.

Burch singled in Ryan Still in the eighth, and Heere came in on a Flagg fielder's choice.

Kyle Eveland walked with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and Marcus Nidiffer earned an RBI the same way in the seventh.

Heere, Flagg and Kyle Colligan each had two hits, and seven of TC's nine starters drew a walk, compared to just six strikeouts.

Cameron Roth yielded five of those walks, while Traverse City hurlers gave up just one base on balls.

Scott Dunn (4-3, 3.38) is slated to get tonight's start, facing off with the Boomers' Alex Rivers (2-2, 5.18).
