Dispatcher persuades fleeing man

Man to dispatcher: Can you get police to stop following me?

HOLLAND — West Michigan authorities said a man fleeing police called 911 from his speeding vehicle, and a dispatcher persuaded him to slow down and stop.

The Holland Sentinel said the chase began about 7 a.m. Tuesday. It said the 25-year-old Holland man led police through Holland and neighboring parts of Allegan County.

MLive.com said he called 911 and reached county dispatcher Tammy Gane.

Dispatch official Megan Kuhn said the driver told Gane to have police stop following him.

Gane asked him how fast he was driving and urged him to slow down, while telling him officers needed to speak with him.

Kuhn said the man finally stopped and followed Gane's instructions to put his hands on the wheel. He was being held but wasn't yet charged Tuesday afternoon.
