PORT HURON (AP) -- A third freighter has been freed from ice jam in southern Lake Huron.
The empty 1,000-foot Presque Isle bound for its home port of Duluth, Minn, was freed about 12:30 p.m. Sunday, more than three hours after it got stuck.
Gene Davis, a situation unit controller with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit, told the Times Herald that three vessels worked to free the ship.
The Coast Guard said winds shifted an 11-mile-long section of ice into the commercial shipping channel on Saturday. Two freighters got stuck on Saturday, one for more than six hours.
