Duck hunters rescued from island

LEONI TOWNSHIP (AP) -- A man rescued four duck hunters from an island on Center Lake in Jackson County after their boat began sinking.

The Jackson Citizen Patriot reports hunter Kyle Berkeypile heard yells Friday night and steered his 12-foot boat to the island. He rescued a Norvell Township man, his two sons and a friend.

The lake is about 65 miles west of Detroit. The hunters had abandoned their boat after it began filling with water and swam to the island. Firefighters called to the scene say the hunters were cold but OK.
