YPSILANTI — Emil T. Walters, 81, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at home. He was born March 2, 1931, to Herman and Barbara (Linguar) Walters at the family homestead near Suttons Bay in rural Leelanau County .
On Aug. 22, 1953, Emil married Glenna Hennerick in Suttons Bay. Together they raised three children and shared a wonderful life over the next 59 years.
Emil was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ypsilanti and then St. Mary of the Woods in Kalkaska. He attained 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus and was Grand Knight in Milan. He was also active outside his church, as a ScoutMaster with Stoney Creek Troop #200, was an avid deer hunter, fisherman and life member of "SRT".
He worked for many years at Al Walters Heating and Air Conditioning, where - with his incredible memory and attention to detail - Emil mentored many in the trade to be "Ace Servicemen" like himself. Emil then worked for Pat Walters and Son until age 62, enjoying his retirement years with his beloved Glenna.
In addition to his loving wife, Emil is survived by daughter, Virginia (Mike) Capotosto, of Rockwood; son, Dale (Susan), of Ypsilanti; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Leona (Howard) Kalchik, of Northport; three brothers, Ben (Darlene), of Elk Rapids, Arthur (Patricia), of Ann Arbor, and Patrick (Myra), of Ypsilanti; sisters-in-law, Marge, Patricia, Dorothy and Eloise; and many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy; brothers, Al, Peter, Phil, Don and Fermin; and sisters-in-law, Francis and Dorothy.
Emil's family with receive friends at the Stark Funeral Home, 101 Washington St., Ypsilanti, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. and again Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., with the rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated by the Revs. Edmond Ertzbischoff and Joseph Fortunato at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 9425 Whittaker Road, Whittaker. Graveside services and burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Traverse City.
