KINGSLEY — Colleen L. Douglass, 59, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at her home in Kingsley. Colleen was born on Dec. 27, 1952, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Max and Maxine (Bigelow) Evens.

She graduated from Mesick High School in 1971 and attended Lake Superior State University, where she met Kurt Douglass. They were married in 1974 and raised two sons, Matt and Adam.

Colleen received her degree in Elementary Education from Central University in 1988 and was a teacher at Mesick Elementary School. She had a passion for educating children and dedicated her life to serving others.

Colleen was the type of mother who was always there for her family, as they were most important in her life. She brought the best out of her husband and heavily influenced the development of her grandsons.

Colleen enjoyed scrapbooking and flower gardening; she even had her beautiful garden as part of the community garden walk.

Colleen is survived by her father, Max Evens; husband, Kurt Douglass; sons, Matthew (Jennifer) Douglass and Adam (Jamie Buning) Douglass; grandchildren, Evan and Rhett Douglass and Owen and Lucas Buning; siblings, Carol (Gerry) Shetenhelm, Roger (Sharon) Evens, Les (Doris) Evens, Arden (Jamie) Evens and Todd (Karen) Evens. She is also survived by Stephanie Hoge.

Colleen's mother, Maxine Evens, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Covell Funeral Home, Kingsley. Visitation will be today, Nov. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., also at the funeral home.
